Susan April Stovall

Susan Stovall left an indelible mark on the world of polo both as a pioneer for women’s polo and on the sport in general. Remembered as a “force of nature,” her influence was broad. Susan Stovall did it all – from competing on the field, to riding early morning sets, organizing tournaments, and hosting royalty and celebrities at charity polo events.

An excellent horseman and polo player, she reached a 2-goal handicap in mixed polo and won numerous events including the Women’s U.S. Handicap in 1985 and 1994. A respected and much beloved manager of Eldorado for 26 years, Stovall also continued to play and to help run her family’s polo operation, the White Swan Polo Club in Washington.

Under her watch, Eldorado grew to become the largest polo club on the West Coast with dozens of teams regularly competing, thanks to her enthusiasm, no-nonsense approach, organizing skills and her genuine love of people that made all feel welcome.
