Polo in Wellington bronze sculpture
The son of a sculptor, George Gách studied with his father and attended the Fine Arts Academy in Budapest. When war swept over Europe, Gách served as a pilot, was shot down, imprisoned, escaped to Budapest, and in 1947, fled once again, to Beirut, Lebanon. In 1952, Gách came to the United States with his family and devoted himself to sculpting, painting and teaching art. His unique, individual pieces embrace all forms of sport, capturing the motion of figures in action.
This bronze sculpture was donated in August 2016 to the Museum of Polo by Dr. Michael W. Peele.
